16 point pre-ride inspection guide

We are all guilty of not pre-checking our motorcycles before going on a ride, but here is a handy checklist to ensure everything is in working order before you go.

1. Forks – any oil leaks, do they rise and fall freely?
2. Tyre wear, pressure, valve – good tread, is the pressure good?
3. Rim / spokes – any cracks or loose spokes?
4. Brake discs, pads, calliper – check for wear
5. Gear shift, footpeg – check for play
6. Side stand / centre stand – check for play
7. Chain – correct tension and lubrication?
8. Clutch leaver and cable – does it pull smoothly?
9. Throttle, brake lever – do the levers return correctly?
10. Mirrors – check for cracks, positioning and clarity
11. Brake fluid – is it topped up?
12. Headlamp – cracks / clarity / bulbs working?
13. Fuel – have you got enough for your journey?
14. Signal indicators – cracks / clarity / bulbs working?
15. Engine oil – topped up to correct level and good viscosity?
16. Rear brake light / running light – cracks / clarity / bulbs working?
