16 point pre-ride inspection guide
We are all guilty of not pre-checking our motorcycles before going on a ride, but here is a handy checklist to ensure everything is in working order before you go.
- Forks – any oil leaks, do they rise and fall freely?
- Tyre wear, pressure, valve – good tread, is the pressure good?
- Rim / spokes – any cracks or loose spokes?
- Brake discs, pads, calliper – check for wear
- Gear shift, footpeg – check for play
- Side stand / centre stand – check for play
- Chain – correct tension and lubrication?
- Clutch leaver and cable – does it pull smoothly?
- Throttle, brake lever – do the levers return correctly?
- Mirrors – check for cracks, positioning and clarity
- Brake fluid – is it topped up?
- Headlamp – cracks / clarity / bulbs working?
- Fuel – have you got enough for your journey?
- Signal indicators – cracks / clarity / bulbs working?
- Engine oil – topped up to correct level and good viscosity?
- Rear brake light / running light – cracks / clarity / bulbs working?
